WABO-Certified Testing Now at MI Everett

Our Everett Training Center is officially a Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO)-certified welding testing site!

WABO certifications are recognized standards across both construction and manufacturing, and for many workers, it’s more than just a job qualification; it’s also access to better jobs, higher wages, and new career pathways. Of the 37 existing WABO welding-qualified sites in Washington, 75% of them do not offer testing to the general public. The result is many workers with drastically fewer access points to life-changing job qualifications, if any at all. This is why we’re on a mission to WABO certify our training centers: so that more workers will face fewer barriers to improving their livelihoods.

We’re excited to bring this new service directly to those in our community striving for that next level of opportunities. Up next: WABO testing at MI is on its way east with plans to certify MI Spokane underway!

Machine shop owners, production managers, and HR leaders: this one’s for you.

Tech & Training Team Up: Spinner North America x MI

Debuting our new training partnership with SPINNER at their IMTS booth earlier this month

“The training comes before it gets there.”

“It” being newer, advanced CNC tech. It’s a simple concept, yet it rarely reflects the reality of innovation manufacturing productions. More often than not, businesses hesitate to implement new manufacturing technology due to concerns about workforce adoption, the additional lift to find, train, and retain people who will, or both. Optimizations are skipped over, and opportunities to save valuable time, effort, and resources are missed.

At this year's International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), we partnered with SPINNER to introduce a joint solution: custom training included within machine sales.

While SPINNER already offers buyers training on installation and applications, this program will take customer success a step further. Once launched, MI will directly support customers with assessing their workforce, identifying skill gaps, and developing sustainable training models to successfully integrate their new tech into their processes. With advanced CNC training and workforce readiness built into purchases, managers won’t need to worry about how upgrades will ‘fit’ their teams; MI and SPINNER will tailor them to make sure they do.

“[Manufacturers] buy equipment to increase capacity, improve quality, boost efficiency, and grow their business. Our mission is to ensure that [their] people are ready to make that happen when new machines hit the shop floor.”

Adam Grim, Sr. Director of Operations, Machinists Institute

Official launch is to be determined, content development is in full swing with the first wave of trainings focused on 5-axis, multi-turret, mill-turn/MicroTurn and advanced control platforms.
